Windows 8.1 Update 1 check? :-)

Windows 8.1 Update 1 check? :-)

Postby SimonZerafa » Fri Jun 13, 2014 9:33 am

Hi Nick,

Any benefit to adding an explicit check for Windows 8.1 Update 1 (KB2919355), perhaps the the Info Tab?

Given that this update is mandatory for Windows 8.1 users to receive further updates it might be good to flag if it's missing.

Here are some methods to check for it here:

http://superuser.com/questions/742124/how-to-differentiate-windows-8-1-update-1-from-windows-8-1

The build version check seems straightforward but checking for KB2919355 being installed as well might be a good sanity check? :-)

Kind Regards

Simon

Actually, that's going to be a big one in terms of keeping systems secure - I'd like to see it in the Alerts column AND red-texted above the tabs ("OS: Win 8.1 Professional") if KB2919355 isn't applied.

Remembering 2929437 for Win7 - lack of this will prevent Updates for IE11..

vis:
Important note for Internet Explorer 11 systems This update applies only to computers that are running Internet Explorer 11 and that do have update 2919355 (for Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2) or update 2929437 (for Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1) installed. All future security and nonsecurity updates for Internet Explorer 11 require you to have update 2919355 or update 2929437 nstalled in order to receive updates. We recommend that you install update 2919355 or update 2929437 in order to continue to receive updates

+1 8.1u1 should be treated as a Service Pack.

I haven't looked at the difference yet but I'm pretty sure you'd be able to tell the difference by the kernel build number.

this has been implemented and should be working -- didn't have a pre-update 1 build to test with at this time though.

Hi Nick,

Thanks for looking into and implementing this :-)

Can you also look at this similar request which I made some time ago here:

viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1574

This is a similar issue for Windows 7 which would be good to implement in D7II.

Kind Regards
